And in other news, if you haven’t stopped by the Playlot recently, after working closely with Solano PLAY, the City of Richmond has just completed some significant road work to calm traffic and improve drainage at 38th and Boyd. Additionally, last month thanks to donations from the Richmond Rotary Club, volunteers planted 6 new trees in the Solano Playlot and even more street trees around the park. Thanks again to all the neighbors who continue to make the Solano Playlot a special place.

Turning over a new leaf

January 11th, 2013 · Events at the Playlot

Playlot supporters and volunteers,

Happy New Year! I’m excited to announce that on Saturday, January 19 we’re hosting a tree planting event in and around the Solano Playlot, and we need more volunteers to get these lovely trees into the ground. We’ll be planting 6 new trees in the Playlot, and another 8 or more as street trees for the neighbors who live around the park. If you can volunteer between 10am and 1pm, please send a quick email to Nancy or leave a comment here.

  • When: Saturday, 1/19 from 9am-1pm
  • Where: Meet at the Solano Playlot
  • Bring: Work gloves

We’re proud to be joined by members of Richmond Trees, the fantastic new community organization that has been working to plant hundreds more trees in neighborhoods throughout Richmond. The Rotary Club of Richmond has generously donated funds to purchase the new trees, supports and other necessary materials, and will be turning out some volunteers. The City of Richmond’s Parks and Landscaping Department is also helping to supply all the equipment we need for the planting, is working on tree placement and supporting us in many other ways.

This tree planting is the first step toward landscaping the park, which remains one of our biggest outstanding projects. We’ll provide water, coffee, and healthy snacks.

Thanks for your support throughout 2012, and we look forward to another year of improving the Solano Playlot and our North and East neighborhood in Richmond.

Thank you,

Melanie

Solano Playlot Grand Opening – Sat. 8/11 at 11AM

August 4th, 2012 · Uncategorized

Solano Playlot friends,

I’m excited to announce the official grand opening of the new Solano Playlot on Saturday, August 11 at 11am.  There will be a short ribbon cutting ceremony, and then the park will be open for all to enjoy. We’ll also have a fun scavenger hunt to help everyone get to know the new park’s many amazing new features.  To get a sneak peek, check out some of the photos on our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/SolanoPlaylot

Please join us for the much-anticipated grand re-opening.  It’s because of the community support, the support of the City of Richmond and the tireless dedication of a core group of volunteers that we’ve managed to turn the Solano Playlot in a place of magic, beauty and fun, and we’re only just beginning!

See you on Aug. 11 at 11am!

Melanie

Halloween Celebration this Weekend!

October 27th, 2011 · Events at the Playlot

Once again, we are gearing up for our annual Halloween festival. We will have gifts for the kids, a costume parade, a bake sale, and a visit from our fabulous Richmond Fire Department. We will also have a raffle, which includes gift certificates to local restaurants, salons, automotive services, and much more! If you were here last year, you will remember how popular this was. Expect it to be just as amazing this year!

And new this year, a produce swap! Bring fruits, vegetables, and herbs from your garden and trade them for goodies from your neighbor’s gardens.

As always, this event is FREE and everyone is welcome. Put on your most clever costume and bring the whole family! Festivities are from 2-4 on Sunday, October 30th. Tell your neighbors!

As always, we could use a few helping hands to make this a fabulous event for everyone. Please consider volunteering any amount of time that you would like…before, during, or after the event. Contact melanie at solanoplay dot org or call 510-612-1219. Thank you!

See you at the playlot and Happy Halloween!
